Thursday News Conglomeration

  • Following up their recent reunion show as Nudedragons at the Showbox and now their performance this month at Lollapalooza, Soundgarden are set to release Telephantasm: A Retrospective on September 28, and yesterday they revealed their first new single since 1997: “Black Rain,” an outtake from the Badmotorfinger sessions. Rumors are that they’re in the studio recording some new material as well.

  • Jenny and Johnny have a new album coming out this month titled Having Fun Now which will be out August 31. Three songs are available streaming right now at Pitchfork. Also, check out the link for tour dates for their upcoming gigs with Band of Horses.
  • Jamie Stewart from Xiu Xiu is contributing a cup of his own urine to a raffle to help raise donations for Graveface Records. Sure, there are plenty of other prizes such as a signed CD by The Go! Team and other unreleased singles… but this is Jamie Stewart’s urine.
  • Ra Ra Riot has harnessed the ever-present power of cats for their latest video for the song “Boy.” Combine this with a group of people holding lights and you have a formidable combination.

  • The National played a new piano ballad titled “You Were A Kindness” on Minnesota Public Radio. Check out the new song and the rest of the set streaming live on the radio show’s web site.

  • El-P has a new video out for their song “Time Won’t Tell.” Check it out below!

  • Dean & Britta from the band Luna have a new segment on Yo Gabba Gabba, Nick Jr’s latest show marketing to indie music loving 20-somethings. But hey, at least the kids are getting the right musical education they need.
